Max Langenhan won his first major individual title at the World Luge Championships in Altenberg. The 24-year-old World Championship leader easily won the single-seater competition on Saturday ahead of the Austrian Nico Gleirscher. Three-time Olympic champion Felix Loch took bronze after achieving it in the second race.

Max Langenhan takes the title, veteran Felix Loch takes bronze

One day after his silver medal in the speed competition, Langenhan was unbeatable in the traditional single-seater competition. “In the end, of course, what counts is this title, which you can also win at the Olympic Games. That's just the single-seater title. “The sprint doesn't exist yet in the Olympic Games,” said the luger who dominated this season before the World Championships.

For the German luge athletes, Langenhan's title and Loch's bronze medal were the fourth medal in the sixth of nine World Cup races. In Altenberg, the men's doubles are still on the competition program on Saturday and on Sunday the women's singles with sprint world champion Julia Taubitz and the team relay. At the previous World Championships held in Oberhof last year, the German team won eight titles and eight additional medals.
