IIn Australia, a woman was attacked by a shark in Sydney Harbour. The predatory fish was likely a bull shark, AAP news agency reported Tuesday, citing eyewitnesses and experts. The attack took place at sunset on Monday near Elizabeth Bay, a well-known bay near the Opera House and Harbor Bridge in the city centre. The 29-year-old victim, who suffered severe injuries to his right leg, was swimming near the jetty when the shark bit him, they said.

The helpers who rushed to the scene later described the scene: “Lauren, the victim, pulled herself up from the side of the pier and tried to get to a safe place,” the resident said. “His leg somehow hung behind him – the water behind him was red with blood everywhere.” The sight was terrible.

The veterinarian immediately administered first aid and applied special bandages to the woman to stop the bleeding. The veterinarian most likely saved the lives of the injured, praised local health minister Ryan Park. The woman was then taken to a nearby hospital. His condition was said to be stable.

Shark attacks in Sydney Harbor are extremely rare. “It is likely that bull sharks will come from Queensland waters to New South Wales and Sydney to feed during the summer and autumn months,” ABC quoted shark researcher Amy Smoothey as saying. Towards evening, the animals often move to shallower water. Authorities initially asked residents not to swim in the harbor.
