New job, new luck: what often sounds promising, sometimes turns out to be a boomerang. Because not all employers can deliver what they promise in the job advertisement and in the interview. Often neither the work environment nor the personal development opportunities nor the salaries are what employees would like.

Stern magazine has addressed this problem in collaboration with the marketing research institute Statista. 33,000 employees from different industries were surveyed, who were able to evaluate both their own company and other companies in their field. More than 50 topics were consulted. The most important thing was whether employees were willing to recommend the selected companies. The result is an exciting classification in which some German car companies also perform well.

Which employer is most convincing in the automotive sector?

A clear picture emerges among German automobile industry entrepreneurs. Porsche is clearly ahead with a score of 84.22 out of a maximum of 100 points. In the general ranking of companies in all sectors, the car manufacturer is only surpassed by the sporting goods manufacturer Adidas with 86.03 points. BMW is once again a great automobile company and occupies third place in the ranking, followed by Audi. The Ingolstadt automobile manufacturer is in seventh place. At Mercedes, however, there is still room for improvement. The Stuttgart automaker is in 16th place. Things are looking even worse at Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg team finished in 42nd place.

How does the classification arise?

To get a clear picture, a total of 33,000 employees from 24 different industries were surveyed. Participants were recruited by independent market researchers. This should prevent companies from sending taxpayers who already praise their own company too much into the race. Only companies with more than 500 employees were considered. In addition to their own company, respondents were also able to rate other companies in their sector.

Not all employers made the ranking. It was necessary to present at least 100 sentences per company for them to be taken into account. In the end, 1,300 companies received the required number of evaluations. The 650 companies with the highest ratings were included in the ranking.
