The day after the terrorist attack near Moscow that left many dead, several survivors returned to the scene of the crime to mourn and leave flowers. When the armed attackers stormed the Crocus City Hall concert hall in the city of Krasnogorsk on Friday evening, 30-year-old Margarita said on Saturday that she was standing with her husband in one of the upper visitors' stands. “We wanted to take a souvenir photo.” At first she thought the explosion noises were loud applause for the artists, she remembers. “But it kept banging. I immediately understood that something was wrong.”

Her husband jumped up and shouted: “Run away!” There was panic and confusion in the hallways, Margarita continues. “It felt like the shots were right next to us. We were afraid that we would go down now and then they would come.” But then they arrived in a dark room on the lower floor, possibly in a warehouse. There they discovered a sign saying “exit” and were able to escape outside.
