bTwo people were killed in a pile-up of about 40 vehicles on the highway near Würzburg. According to the Bavarian Red Cross, 31 people were injured, four of them seriously, in accidents that took place in heavy rain on Sunday afternoon. A total of three accidents happened in a row. A police spokesman said the Autobahn 3 in the direction of Nuremberg was completely closed. A diversion via U89 has been established.

According to the spokesperson, the collision initially occurred around 4 p.m., involving several vehicles. Shortly after, the first subsequent accident occurred about 100 meters away in the backlog. Three vehicles caught fire. About half an hour later, another accident occurred at the traffic jam, again involving several vehicles. A large number of police, fire and rescue personnel are on the scene.

The Bavarian Red Cross announced that a large contingent of rescue workers was on the job. Three rescue helicopters have now landed on the highway. Approximately 30 uninjured people involved in the accident are also in the care of aid organizations. A care center has been created for the aftercare ambulance.
