Jens Lehmann had a fabulous season with Arsenal FC in the 2003/2004 season. England there. They stayed with Arsene Wenger London undefeated in the league. The “Invincibles” were born.

Now Germany's Bayer Leverkusen is preparing to do something similar. After 30 league games, the Bayer team remains undefeated. On this occasion, among other things, “RTL” interviewed Lehmann as an expert. What emerged was an avalanche of inaccuracies and half-truths. Lehmann's five most curious statements at a glance.

1. Confusion over Xhaka's time at Arsenal and his age

Lehmann wants to prove throughout the season that the Leverkusen team has and carries a winning mentality. In Lehmann's opinion, the leader is Granit Xhaka, who, like the former goalkeeper, was also active at Arsenal.

But the question is: how long really? “I think he was there four or five years,” Lehmann says at first, but then, somewhat confused, adds: “No, actually longer. “Probably seven or eight years.” Bingo, at least one of the details was correct. Xhaka was with the Londoners from 2016 to 2023. But interviewer Felix Görner does not help reduce the confusion either.

With his next question, the Swiss man ages three more years. To clarify: No, Xhaka is not 34, but 31 years old.

2. Well, what is Hradecky's name? “Lucas over there”

Any team that is prepared to win a title needs a stable defense. This relies on a strong goalkeeper. Well, that should be Lehmann's core competency. But does the former national goalkeeper know the name of Bayer Leverkusen's Finnish goalkeeper? Not precisely.

“Luke over there,” Lehmann calls to the goalkeeper. At least the name is correct: his last name is Hradecky. Lehmann continues shooting after this, but he mispronounces it several times.

The 3rd Bundesliga is not “fair”, unlike England…

By the way, Lehmann is not really worried that the Leverkusen team could stumble. The league is “not fair” because very few teams could really challenge the best. In England this is different. “The last can beat the first,” says Lehmann.

By the way: Sheffield United are currently in last place in England; The record against the three best teams, Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, is: six games, zero points, goal difference: 2:20.

4. Rangnick and the calculation of probabilities

Ralf Rangnick is one of the candidates to succeed Thomas Tuchel as Bayern coach. Lehmann is certain that Rangnick does not have the necessary competence to fill this position.

When Görner says that Rangnick has expertise, Lehmann interjects: “How do you get expertise? Rangnick has never won anything.” In this context, Lehmann knows that Rangnick won with Schalke. DFB Cup and the winner is. But this can't really count. “The final was against MSV Duisburg. “I don’t think he’s really committed to that.”

Then Lehmann crunches the numbers and pulls out the slide rule: “If someone never earned anything in the first 50 to 60 years, what is the probability that they will earn anything afterward?” Is it still a secret whether Rangnick has specialized knowledge or not?

5. Keeper switches to moderator role

Lehmann doesn't just want to answer questions and simply switches roles. Now he asks the questions. “You are an expert, you can judge: what is the difference between Tuchel and Rangnick?”

Görner's response: “Tuchel has already won the Champions League.” Lehmann nods and says “respect.” In front of whom now? Brats? Tuchel? One does not know. Does Lehmann know?
