Eisbären Berlin is once again German champion. The runner-up of the preliminary round of the German Ice Hockey League clinched its tenth championship title early Friday with a 2-0 (0-0, 0-0, 2-0) victory in Bremerhaven against the winner of the main round, the Fischtown Pinguins. and thus their third championship since 2021. Last year, coach Serge Aubin's team missed the playoffs after two previous championship titles.

Eisbären Berlin crowned German ice hockey champion

In terms of titles, the East Berliners caught up with SC Riessersee. However, since DEL was founded 30 years ago, no team has won the championship more often than Eisbären. On Friday Leo Pföderl (44th minute) and Manuel Wiederer (49th) scored for the Berliners and completed the necessary fourth victory in the fifth final match.

Bremerhaven reached the DEL final series for the first time. For Thomas Popiesch it was probably his last game as coach of the Penguins. The East Berlin native has been in the playoffs every year with Bremerhaven since he joined DEL in 2016. Popiesch will be the coach of the Krefeld Pinguins next season.
