‘A possibility’: NYT reporter says she’s heard Tucker could be Trump’s VP pick

A New York Times reporter said Monday that she heard that former President Donald Trump could choose Tucker Carlson as his running mate for the 2024 election.

Political correspondent Maggie Haberman said during a interview on the Dispatch podcast that Trump was planning to rally loyalists for a possible administration if he won the next presidential election. Podcast host Jamie Weinstein then asked her about rumors that Trump might choose Carlson, co-founder of the Daily Caller and Daily Caller News Foundation, as his running mate. “It’s a real thing that I’m hearing as a possibility,” Haberman responded. “The probability of it happening, I don’t know. Honestly, I think there will be a fairly professionalized investigation process. I know it may sound incredible based on what we’ve seen historically from Trump, but Trump’s current political team is the best (at least as a non-incumbent) that he’s ever had, and there’s just a different level of control.”

Carlson’s show with Fox News racked up huge ratings before the network announced his departure April 24th. After his departure, ratings for the replacement show, “Fox News at Night,” refused until the network announced that Jesse Watters would be moving his show from 7 pm to 8 pm to replace The Carlson Show.

“The risk with Tucker Carlson and Trump is that Tucker Carlson is a big star in his own right, and I’m not sure how Trump would deal with that,” Haberman said.

The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.
