IBjörn Höcke will be in court for almost two weeks. And it seems that the leader of the Thuringian AfD and the most radical representative of his party wants to profit from it. The reason for this is the public utterance of a forbidden slogan from the National Socialist era. Höcke used the slogan several times, even when he already knew that he had triggered criminal proceedings.

The politician, classified as a right-wing extremist by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, apparently wants to use the stage of a court case to portray himself as a victim who is being persecuted by those who allegedly want to restrict freedom of expression in Germany. In doing so, he could take advantage of a mood that is widespread not only among AfD supporters, but also among many citizens, not least in East Germany. The great media interest could play into his hands.
