Barcelona (EFE).- “Alcarràs”, by Carla Simón, and “Pacifiction”, by Albert Serra, have monopolized the main awards of the XV Gaudí Awards for Catalan cinema, in which “One year, one night”, by Isaki Lacuesta, has won five statuettes, in a gala marked by the memory of the late Agustí Villaronga.

In the more than three hours that the gala has lasted, the name of the late Mallorcan director Agustí Villaronga has floated through the oval room of the MNAC in a heartfelt and emotional tribute to the director of “Pa negre” or “Incerta glòria”, for having defended “a diverse, inclusive and feminist cinema”; Words against sexist violence have also been recurrent.

«Alcarràs», by Carla Simón, and «Pacifiction», by Albert Serra, have won the Gaudí Awards for Best Film and Best Film in a Non-Catalan Language, respectively, in an edition with widely distributed awards that have also recognized the merits of «Suro », with the awards for Best New Director for Mikel Gurrea and Best Leading Performances, and for «One Year, One Night», by Isaki Lacuesta, which has won five statuettes.

The delivery ceremony of the XV Gaudí Awards has left practically none of the most nominated titles unrewarded, since they have also obtained two awards “La maternal”, by Pilar Palomero, and another two “Los renglones torcidos de Dios”, by Oriol Paul.

As for the two feature films recognized with the main awards, Alcarràs has also won the Gaudí for Best Director, for a Carla Simón who had already raised it with “Summer 1993” and who made history last year with the Golden Bear at the Berlin Festival; for Best Original Screenplay for Simón herself and Arnau Vilaró, and for Best Production Direction for Elisa Sirvent; to which the special prize of the public has been added.

In the case of “Pacifiction”, which last week won three Lumière awards in France, the Catalan Film Academy has recognized it with the Gaudí for Best Art Direction for Sebastian Vogler and Best Cinematography for Artur Tort.
Actors and actresses have shone in the interpretive list with works that feed back: Pol López and Vicky Luengo, who have won the Best Leading Actor and Actress awards for their roles in “Suro.”

For her part, Ángela Cervantes has won her second consecutive Gaudí (last year, for “Chavalas”), both as Best Supporting Actress, and her daughter in the fiction of “La maternal”, the young Carla Quílez, only 14 years, which has emerged as the winner in the new Best New Performance category, after winning the Silver Shell at the last San Sebastian Festival.

The awards in the acting categories are completed with the Gaudí for Best Supporting Actor for Alex Brendemühl for his character in «Historias para no cuentar», by Cesc Gay, the second statuette he lifts after the one obtained in 2010 with «The two lives of Andrés Rabadan”.

The most awarded film at the Gaudí this year was “One Year, One Night”, with the Best Adapted Screenplay awards for Isaki Lacuesta, Isa Campo and Fran Araújo; Best Editing for Sergi Dies and Fernando Franco; Best original music for Raül Refree; Best visual effects for Laura Pedro; and Best Sound for Amanda Villavieja, Eva Valiño, Alejandro Castillo and Marc Orts.

Following the trend of recent years, the Gaudí have once again recognized the talent of professionals, with up to 12 nominative awards won by women, compared to the fourteen given to men.

In addition to those for Best Direction, Original and Adapted Screenplay, Female Performances and Newcomer, Production Management, Visual Effects, Sound, and Makeup and Hairstyling, the Gaudí Awards for Best Documentary, Best Short Film, and Best European Film have been added for three projects led by women.

Isabel Coixet has won the award for Best Documentary for “El techo amarillo”, collected on stage by its protagonists, former students of the Aula de Teatro de Lleida who denounced two of their teachers for sexual abuse during their adolescence.
The Gaudí for Best Short Film was won by Júlia de Paz Solvas, director and co-writer with Nuria Dunjó of “Harta”, which reflects on the impact of gender violence on children; and “Cinco lobitos”, by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, has been erected with the Gaudí for Best European Film.
