Chinese company Huawei started selling its Pura 70 series of smartphones on Thursday (April 18), Reuters reported. In this way, Huawei could continue its resurgence in China, writes CNBC. The new models pose a challenge to Apple, which is the dominant foreign smartphone brand in China.
Apple and Huawei compete in the same price ranges
The prices of the Pura 70, Pura 70 Pro, Pura 70 Pro Plus and Pura 70 Ultra models range between 5,499 yuan (about 711 euros) and 9,999 yuan (about 1,294 euros). Therefore, Apple and Huawei compete in the same price ranges. According to the CNBC article, you have to pay 5,999 yuan for the iPhone 15 in China, while the iPhone 15 Max costs 9,999 yuan.
The American company suffered a setback in the Chinese market in the first six weeks of 2024. During that period, iPhone sales fell 24 percent compared to the previous year, Counterpoint results showed. On the other hand, Huawei's development pointed in the other direction: sales increased by 64 percent.

In August last year, the Shenzhen-based company launched the Mate 60 series. This was hailed by state media as a triumph over US sanctions against Huawei, according to Reuters. Because the smartphones have an advanced chip from China.
The Pro and Ultra models are available from Thursday, April 18. As Reuters reports, the smartphones were sold out in Huawei's official online store within a minute of going on sale.
