Until then, there were many things that spoke in favor of the 65-year-old's commitment. According to the report, Bayern officials previously addressed “all his wishes” in the talks. In particular, supervisory board members Uli Hoeneß and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge fought for Rangnick. The Austrian coach should have gone ahead with the planned change at all levels.

When negotiations were still ongoing, it was reported several times that Rangnick wanted broad powers at Bayern, such as having a say in transfers or the composition of the squad.
This is not traditionally the case at FC Bayern: normally the coach received his squad largely from the bosses and had to work with existing players.
After the current season ended without at least one national title, the management of Säbener Straße sees that the time has come for a change in the squad. Before Rangnick, those in charge in Munich had already tried in vain to reach an agreement with Xabi Alonso of Bayer Leverkusen and with national coach Julian Nagelsmann.
Following Rangnick's rejection, Bayern now have to look again for a successor for coach Thomas Tuchel. With a victory on Wednesday against Real Madrid, the 50-year-old coach and his team could reach the Champions League final.
