BBC Breakfast presenter Munchetty Naga has revealed that she has adenomyosis, a debilitating condition of the uterus.

Speaking on his live BBC Radio 5 show this morning, Munchetty said he is in “constant nagging pain” from the condition and is often unable to move, turn or sit up. A particularly bad episode over the weekend led her husband to call an ambulance, she said.

“I screamed non-stop for 45 minutes,” Munchetty added. “Right now, as I’m sitting here talking to you: I’m in pain. Constant and persistent pain.

“It’s in my uterus and around my pelvis,” Munchetty continued, having invited others on her show to discuss the condition. “Sometimes she runs up my thighs. And I will have some level of pain throughout the show and for the rest of the day until I go to sleep.”

Around one in 10 women are thought to have adenomyosis, according to the BBC. The condition is characterized by the growth of cells that proliferate inside the uterus and can cause extreme pain. It is most common in women between the ages of 35 and 50, but it can affect younger women. Like endometriosis, it often goes untreated for years.

Munchetty is one of the BBC’s highest profile presenters. She presents Breakfast in the mornings from Monday to Friday along with his Five Live program.
