tiles starting pitcher Alek Manoah had his outing interrupted Saturday through no fault of his own. In fact, his elimination in the sixth inning of the hard-fought game against the rival oriolesit arose from a visit to manager John Schneider’s mound.

After Schneider was seen briefly discussing strategy with Manoah and the Toronto infielders, home plate umpire Dan Iassogna stepped up to the mound to convey the fact that this was Toronto’s second mound visit in the inning.

MLB prohibits managers from visiting the mound twice in one inning. The second visit to the mound in a single inning requires a pitching change to be made.

As a result of Schneider’s error, Toronto was forced to remove Manoah from the game, which was tied 2–2 at the time.

Manoah was visibly frustrated when Iassogna informed the team of their mistake, but he could do nothing more than accept his fate and walk to the bench. The 25-year-old had thrown just 85 pitches in 5 2/3 innings of work, giving up two earned runs, six hits and one walk and striking out five before his removal.

In relief of Manoah, the Blue Jays turned to Tim Mayza, who needed just three pitches to escape the sixth, but it certainly made matters worse for their starter’s outing to end so suddenly and unnecessarily.
