How could it be otherwise: Prince Harry, 39, and Duchess Meghan, 42, recently launched their new website – and received a lot of criticism for it.

This is how Meghan and Harry's children will now be called

The reason for this is, among other things, the new name. Harry and Meghan no longer appear online as Archewell.com, but Sussex.com. Some royal fans are upset by the fact that they are now using the royal name for their website. Others are defending the couple and pointing out that Harry and Meghan are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

But Harry and Meghan have not only changed their website but also the names of their children Archie (4) and Lilibet (2). The surname of these two is no longer Mountbatten-Windsor, but – like their parents – Sussex. Since the coronation of King Charles III. in May 2023, the family will have a common surname. Now they have made it official with their website.

Break with long traditions

This marks the end of a 64-year royal naming tradition. In 1960, the Privy Council established the surname Mountbatten-Windsor for all male descendants of Queen Elizabeth II (†96) and Prince Philip (†99).

Attentive users also noticed another detail that may not be to everyone's liking. Harry and Meghan write in their biographies: “Meghan lives with her husband and their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet in California” or: “Prince Harry lives in California with his wife Meghan and their two children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet”. However, neither Archie nor Lilibet were born prince or princess.

But it is also true: the two children were not given the title at birth because of the coronation of King Charles III. (75) – because they are the grandchildren of the reigning king – they are allowed to call themselves prince and princess. However, titles should only be used in formal situations.

Lilibet should also be considered

By the way, Harry and Meghan are said to have renamed their website so that both children are taken into account. After all, the former name Archewell was a very clear reference to Archie. An anonymous source told British media: “The reason for the new website is simple: it's the center of work for the Sussexes and it reflects the fact that the family shares the same surname for the first time since the king's coronation. It's a big deal for any family. It represents their union and it's a proud moment. .

After renewed criticism came a new statement: Harry and Meghan do not want to let themselves down.
