These days, it’s relatively rare for a major song to be written by a single person; In 2022, Glass Animals’ “heatwaves” was the first No. 1 song to be written and produced by a single person since Pharrell’s “Happy” in 2014. Yet artists are sometimes criticized for not just writing their own music, and CardiB isn’t here for that, as she explained in a recent comment on Instagram.
It all started with an Instagram post from The neighborhood’s speechwith a video of Cardi saying hip-hop started in the Bronx. The comments section was active and one user seemingly criticized Cardi’s abilities as a solo rap songwriter. To this, Cardi replied: “I started music before LHH [Love And Hip Hop] and I wrote about MY struggles and my life as a dancer, go listen to their mixtapes and I also went to school for musical theater and technology. just because someone could help me with a hook doesn’t mean anything. Look at all the credits of your favorite artists, they all get some sort of help.
Meanwhile, Cardi recently gave an update on her future plans, saying“”[I will tour] as soon as I finish my album,” adding, “The album will be finished this year. And it will be released next year.
Cardi B is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
