In solid waste in the Metropolitan Area of Lisbon (AML) there was 100% adherence to the civil service strike, which started at 00:00 this Friday, and the large hospital centers are in minimum services, according to the Common Front.

“There is a huge number of people in large hospitals, such as Braga and in the hospitals of S. João, in Porto, S. José, in Lisbon, or in Amadora Sintra. All of them have minimal services”, operating only emergencies and hospitalizations, said the coordinator from the Common Front of Public Administration Unions, Sebastião Santana, to Lusa.

The national strike by civil servants began at the start of the night shift, with workers in the areas of health and solid urban waste collection (domestic waste) being the first to go on strike.

Among the reasons for the strike called by the Common Front are the demand for immediate salary increases, the setting of maximum limits for the prices of goods and services, the valuation of careers and the reinforcement of public services.

In the education sector, the National Federation of Teachers (Fenprof) announced this week that teachers and educators will participate in the Public Administration strike and non-teaching workers are covered by the prior notice of the Common Front.

For the day after the strike, on Saturday, a national demonstration is scheduled in Lisbon, promoted by the CGTP, for the general increase in wages and pensions in view of the rise in the cost of living.
