At the conference of Interior Ministers, deportations to Syria are requested. This allows criminals to get away with impunity and endanger the local population.

Without a doubt, the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad is primarily responsible for the current situation in the country. This has meant that extremist groups have been able to easily enter Syria for the past 13 years. The 2011 Syrian revolution sought to establish a civil and democratic state order based on the principle of citizenship. The Assad regime fought against us, the civilian population, and strengthened radical Islamist forces. This plunged us into chaos.

Even if there was a safe zone in Syria, it would be destroyed again by the repatriation of terrorist threats.

That is why I am surprised by the news that people linked to terrorist acts in Germany will now be deported to Syria. This practice contradicts the principle of universal law. It means that federal prosecutors can punish criminals who committed atrocities in another country.

As a Syrian, I have experienced many acts of terrorism, both from Islamists and government supporters. Due to its special jurisprudence, I have always seen Germany as a place where I can seek justice. Until today.

I have also heard that the German federal government wants to deport to the country's so-called safe zones in Syria for deportation purposes. What part of Syria exactly does Germany want to consider safe? It's a terrible mind game. Even if there was a safe zone in Syria, it would be destroyed again by the repatriation of terrorist threats.

To quote Martin Luther King: “Injustice anywhere threatens justice everywhere else.” It is unacceptable to deport criminals with impunity to places where they can reoffend. They are putting us in danger.

If we want a stable Syria independent of international aid, we must treat Syrians in accordance with German laws and bring terrorist threats to justice here. Anything else undermines efforts to make Syria safe.
