Devin Haney pushes Vasiliy Lomachenko at the weigh-in; NSAC Filing Complaint

LAS VEGAS – After Devin Haney forcefully shoved Vasiliy Lomachenko at Friday’s ceremonial weigh-in, the Nevada State Athletic Commission is ready to file a complaint with its attorney’s office for a disciplinary hearing at its next meeting, they said. sources to ESPN.

Haney, who will win a guaranteed $4 million for his undisputed lightweight championship defense against Lomachenko on Saturday (10 pm ET, ESPN+ PPV), will likely be fined, sources said.

The commission also requested a second physical on Lomachenko (17-2, 11 KOs) to re-clear him medically for the fight as a precaution, according to the sources, though the Ukrainian appeared unfazed afterward.

“Now it’s mine,” said Lomachenko, who weighed in at 135 pounds at the weigh-in Friday morning. “He doesn’t have the power… he’s scared… I see him right now and 100 percent (he’s scared).”

Haney, who weighed in at 134.9 pounds for the second defense of his four lightweight titles, was booed after the shoving. The promotion was pretty tame until the 24-year-old Haney launched the challenge across the stage, injecting some excitement into the matchup between two of boxing’s best fighters.

“That was just the beginning,” said Haney, who fights out of Las Vegas. “See how easily I pushed him? He’s a smaller man and I’m going to impose my will on him.”

Lomachenko, a former three-division champion, will earn a guaranteed $3 million, sources said. The 35-year-old lost all three of his lightweight titles to Teófimo López in October 2020.

Haney (29-0, 15 KOs) won the undisputed lightweight championship with a unanimous decision win over George Kambosos in June and retained their titles in a rematch in Australia in October. Haney is ESPN’s No. 1 lightweight while Lomachenko is ranked No. 2.
