Just three days after the 1:2 against FC St. Pauli, the second division football team Fortuna Düsseldorf has a historic opportunity in the DFB Cup against Hamburg. For the first time in 28 years, Fortuna can once again reach a cup semi-final. Pauli has also been waiting for this for 18 years. The match starts at 8:45 p.m. on the live ticker.

Financially, a victory in Düsseldorf would be worth its weight in gold. Reaching the semi-finals would be rewarded with a bonus of around 3.5 million euros. “It is an exorbitant sum for any team in the second division and would be a good side effect,” said sporting director Christian Weber.

On Saturday in the league, the second division leader was still too big for Fortuna, who could however count on two new additions. The Rhinelanders signed two additional loan players: attacker Marlon Mustapha and defender Joshua Quarshie.

The two-time cup winners from Düsseldorf last reached the semi-finals in 1996. At that time, Fortunes were eliminated 2-0 at Karlsruher SC.
