Dolly Parton Sang “Rocky Top’ Live At Neyland Stadium

National treasure and Tennessee’s Dolly Parton graced Neyland Stadium with her gift of song Saturday as she sang “Rocky Top” live on the field after being escorted by Peyton Manning.

That was about the only thing that went right for No. 21 Tennessee, which lost to No. 1 Georgia 38-10 on the field.

However, he perhaps got his best interpretation of Rocky Top from it.

Parton was born in a small town outside of Gatlinburg and still lives in her home state of Brentwood. Parton’s 50-year career in country music and beyond as a cultural icon has made her one of the most beloved figures in the country, and even more so in Tennessee.

She was a huge hit with Tennessee fans while singing with the group.

After finishing, she was interviewed by CBS Sports sideline reporter Jenny Dell. “I’m joined here by the goddess herself,” Dell said before asking Parton what it felt like to sing Tennessee’s favorite song in front of a packed stadium.

“Well, it was great, but I couldn’t hear because my sound was off and the stadium was so loud…but I was so honored to be here.

“It’s so good to still be home.”

Parton hummed Rocky Top as Dell sent it back to Brad Nessler and Gary Danielson for play-by-play, but made it clear they would go back to Parton. After just one piece, they did it and she sang part of it again.

“They put me in this damn Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame, and I thought I had to do it. do something to win this. I have to make a rock album,” Parton said of his new album Rock star which was released on Friday.

Parton also teamed up with the University of Tennessee to release an exclusive Vols edition of her album that includes a bonus track: a live bluegrass version of “Rocky Top.”
