Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder parody the intro to ‘Anyone But You’

Fielder then took to Instagram to clarify the similarities.

“I was just informed that the introductory clip leading up to our trailer for ‘The Curse’ that I posted on social media today has similarities to the intro to the trailer for the romantic comedy film ‘Anyone But You’. “I want to be very clear: we filmed this promo over six months ago and I am seriously concerned that Sony Pictures’ marketing team somehow saw our promo and copied it.” Fielder wrote in a Notes app statement posted to Instagram.and added that he would not “take legal action.”

“As artists, when doing these types of promotions, we simply read the scripts we are given with unwavering confidence that the creativity we are producing is completely original and not lifted from competing projects or generated by AI (an ongoing struggle that artists around the world are facing). trying to put a stop to),” Fielder continued. “It is unfortunate that Sydney, Glen, Emma and I have found ourselves in this situation. But this won’t stop us from supporting each other’s successes, and I know that both Emma and I will personally reserve front-row tickets to ‘Anyone But You’ on opening night.”

It was unclear whether Fielder was joking or not, but the comedian is known for coming up with outlandish schemes to promote businesses on his comedy reality show “Nathan for You.”

“Anyone But You” director Will Gluck later responded to Fielder, seemingly confirming that it was all fake and playing along with the prank. Gluck admitted that the team “actually stole the idea from the trailer release” and included a version of the poster for “The Haunting,” which features Sweeney and Powell’s heads photoshopped onto Stone and Fielder’s bodies.

“In today’s era of cancel culture, sometimes it’s best to just own up to your mistakes. In fact, we stole the idea from ‘The Curse’ trailer release and for that, we deeply apologize to Paramount+, Showtime, Nathan Fielder and Emma Stone. I know words are hollow, but please, in the spirit of Christmas, try to forgive our mistakes.” wrote Gluck, also in a statement from the Notes application on Instagram.

“Unfortunately, this was not our only transgression. We also appropriated their poster for our campaign,” Gluck added, noting that the team originally intended to unveil the poster next week, but “for obvious (and legal) reasons,” they would publish it along with the note.

“Please accept again our deepest apologies. In no way do we intend to stand in the way of your success; in fact, we celebrate it. I know we’ll also see ‘The Curse’ when it comes out in January,” Gluck said.

“Anyone But You” is scheduled to be released in theaters on December 22. “The Curse,” about a house flipping program gone wrong, premiered last Friday, November 10.
