Foxconn, based in Taiwan and a manufacturer of computers and electronic components, won the contract to manufacture AirPods for Apple, according to “Reuters”.

The contract will make Foxconn the supplier of AirPods for the first time, and this company is already responsible for manufacturing 70% of iPhones. AirPods are currently manufactured by several Chinese suppliers.

A source said Foxconn would invest $200 million in a new factory in India to manufacture the AirPods, however it was unclear how much the contract for the AirPods would be worth.

The source also revealed that Foxconn employees have struggled internally with making the AirPods due to the relatively low profit margins that making the device offers.

It is also known that Apple asked for the production of AirPods to be done in India.
