EGerman died in Spain while trying to save a drowning man during a storm on the Mediterranean coast near Tarragona. A 30-year-old man went into the water at Fortí de la Reina despite rough seas on Thursday to help a 16-year-old who had fallen into the sea, a police spokesman told the German Press Agency.
Two helicopters and a lifeboat were sent to the scene, but both the German and the young man drowned. The coast of the crash site is rocky.
Two more people died in Cantabria, in the north of the country, when the storm “Nelson” hit Spain. A British tourist was rescued dead after being hit by a large wave and thrown into the sea. Just a few kilometers away, a local woman who had been swept out to sea by a wave drowned, state broadcaster RTVE reported, citing the authorities. With breakers up to seven meters high, an urgent warning was given not to approach the coast.
