Government raises family allowance amounts

The Government decided to increase the amount of family allowance for children and young people, having published this Wednesday in Diário da República the new values. For example, the benefit for children up to 36 months old who fall into the first income bracket is now 161 euros a month, 11 euros more than up until now. The prenatal family allowance, the funeral subsidy, the disability subsidy of the family allowance and the subsidy for assisting a third person are also strengthened.

As he explains in the ordinance released this morning, the update of the values ​​in question serves to “reinforce in real terms the protection guaranteed to families”, taking into account the consumer price index (IPC), without housing, available in November 2022, that is, the same indicator that, as a general rule, also guides the increase in old-age pensions.
