The Government of Madeira, in the Government Council, recommended that the Republic exclude Local Accommodation in the Autonomous Region of Madeira from the economic activities included in the Mais Habitação programme.

“We recommend to the Government of the Republic that the new framework, resulting from the approval by the Council of Ministers on February 16, 2023, for the economic activities recommended in the so-called Mais Habitação Programme, namely with regard to local accommodation, including the inherent fiscal framework , are not generally applied in the Autonomous Region of Madeira, and it is necessary to involve the governing bodies of the Autonomous Regions and the regional municipalities in a solution that is specific, dimensioned and adequate to the reality of the Autonomous Region of Madeira”, was the appeal made by the Madeiran executive.

The Commercial and Industrial Association of Funchal and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madeira (ACIF-CCIM), through its president, Jorge Veiga França, told Económico Madeira on 17 March that that it was going to reject any measure, within the scope of the measures announced by the Republic for housing, which included Local Accommodation.

Jorge Veiga França stressed to Económico Madeira that the measures announced by the Republic for Local Accommodation are “harmful” for the sector in the Region and warned that they will “clearly harm” an area that has made a great contribution to the generation of wealth.

ACIF’s position emerged that the Republic’s new measures for the housing sector, which were announced last Thursday, were not yet known.
