Pamphlets with messages from Pope Francis and the cardinal patriarch of Lisbon were placed this Wednesday on chairs in the waiting room of two hospitals in the Portuguese capital, Capuchos and Curry Cabral, advances the newspaper Diário de Notícias. The patriarchy guarantees that it does not know who placed them and mentions that “the distribution of pamphlets is not carried out in these types of places”.
The hospital administration, when questioned by the Diário de Notícias, stated that “she was taken by surprise” and that when “she realized that the pamphlets were there, they were removed”. “We don’t know who put it there. It could even have been a patient”, she adds.
However, according to the newspaper, the fact that it happened in two hospitals may indicate a planned action.
The messages referred to the report on sexual abuse of minors in the Church. “Sadness, shame and regret cannot be lacking at this moment, even when more institutionally than personally, for those who did not commit such crimes or condone them”, said D. Manuel Clemente regarding the report.
“When there is something to be judged and sanctioned, it will certainly be so, according to civil, canonical and evangelical law – the latter not allowing us to give up on anyone’s conversion”, adds the message.
Referring to Lent, Pope Francis says that “the Lenten ascetic path and, similarly, the synodal one, have as their goal a personal and ecclesial transfiguration. A transformation that, in both cases, finds its model in that of Jesus and is fulfilled by the grace of his paschal mystery”.
