Netflix increased its prices a few days ago, although initially this only applied to new customers. Subscriptions that are already active are now also affected. If you do not accept the new cost changes, this could have serious consequences for your subscription.
Which Netflix subscriptions are now more expensive
If you want to continue using Netflix without ads, you will soon have to pay more for it. The streaming service is currently informing its existing customers via email about price increases for standard and premium subscriptions, as GamePro reports.
This is what Netflix subscriptions will cost soon:
- Premium subscription: 19.99 instead of 17.99 euros
- Standard subscription: 13.99 instead of 12.99 euros
- Basic subscription: 9.99 instead of 7.99 euros
For users who still want to watch their favorite series and movies on Netflix without having to put too much money in their pockets, the company offers an affordable alternative. Because the advertising subscription of 4.99 euros is not affected by the price increase. Additional members, i.e. people outside your own household, can still be added to the standard and premium subscriptions for 4.99 euros.
Anyone who disagrees with the email will lose their subscription.
Existing customers will now be asked in an email to accept the price increase. Anyone who refuses or does nothing will be fired. Without the user's consent to the new price, the subscription will not be automatically adjusted and will therefore end after the end of the current payment period. This should give the opportunity to rethink contractual options and adjust them if necessary.
The exact text of said email was also published on GamePro: “Thank you for being a Netflix member since 2019. We are glad that you like the various Netflix offerings. If you accept, your standard subscription will increase to €13.99. Starting May 24, 2024 you will pay €13.99 per month. If you want to accept the new price: Go to Netflix and click Accept new price. If you reject the new price or do nothing: your membership will be cancelled.”
If you haven't received a notice from Netflix yet, that doesn't mean you'll be spared from increased costs. Because not all emails seem to be sent at the same time. The higher price should take effect exactly one month after receiving the notification.
