EInvestigators have found and seized 40 semi-automatic firearms that were stolen during rail transport in northern Germany. Two suspects were arrested by special police units, the Hannover Federal Police Directorate and the Lüneburg Public Prosecutor's Office announced on Thursday. They are accused of commercial and gang-related theft.

According to the investigators, the stolen goods were fully functional firearms that externally resembled automatic weapons. The weapons were stolen during rail transport.

Authorities did not initially provide more details — such as where the guns were stolen and later confiscated. They wanted to release more details about their investigation in Hamburg on Friday.
