Musician Justin Bieber sold the rights to his music catalog to Hipgnosis, a British company specializing in the management of musical funds, for 200 million dollars (about 184 million euros).

The information was disclosed on Tuesday, according to “Rolling Stone” magazine. The musician’s catalog includes 290 songs released until December 31, 2021.

The British company acquired 100% of Bieber’s publishing copyrights, including writing, recordings and ‘neighbor rights’ (whenever a song is played in public places, ‘neighbor rights’ are paid to the owner of the recording).

This agreement leaves songs like “Baby”, “Sorry”, “Boyfriend” and “Love Yourself” in the hands of the company. The singer has more than 150 million records sold, being one of the artists with the most sales in the world and of all time. Bieber joins a list of artists who have also sold their portfolio to this company, such as Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen and Justin Timberlake.

The sale of music catalogs is quite common in the music world, but it usually happens when artists are already at the end of their career. Justin Bieber is only 28 years old, which makes this multi-million deal a little unusual.

This sale comes after a troubled year for the singer, who was forced to cancel part of his tour due to health problems, namely facial paralysis caused by Ramsay-Hunt syndrome.
