Kidnapping suspect under European arrest warrant detained in Covilhã – Portugal

The GNR detained a Portuguese citizen in Covilhã, Castelo Branco district, following a European arrest warrant, for the presumed commission of a crime of kidnapping.

In a statement, the Territorial Command of the GNR in Castelo Branco said that “in the scope of a European arrest warrant that has been pending over the detainee, since 2016, for the crime of kidnapping”, the military of that force “located the target and carried out his arrest “.

The 67-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday by soldiers from the Territorial Post of Teixoso.

A GNR source explained to the Lusa agency that he is a Portuguese citizen on whom a European arrest warrant was pending, issued for the presumed commission of a crime of kidnapping committed in Spain.

The detainee was present, on Wednesday, at the Judicial Court of Coimbra, from where he was taken to the Prison of Aveiro, where he will wait for the conclusion of the extradition process.
