Baden-Württemberg has the most confusing school landscape of all countries. Now Winfried Kretschmann's green-black government is agreeing to a proposal from the opposition to resolve the backlog of reforms in education policy.

DThe green-black state government in Baden-Württemberg is on the defensive when it comes to education policy: a parents' initiative is forcing the government to return to nine-year high schools through a popular proposal. The country has the most confusing school landscape of all countries with secondary schools, secondary schools, secondary schools, community schools and high schools as well as vocational high schools.

The abolition of the primary school recommendation puts pressure on high schools and secondary schools because they have to accept too many weak students. Educational studies confirm that primary school students in particular have poor reading, writing and arithmetic scores. All types of schools, but especially primary schools, have not adapted pedagogically and personnel to a high proportion of students with a migrant background, or have adapted far too late.
