LeBron fumbled out of bounds on a patented reverse dunk

Running the offense on the Lakers’ small ball unit, LeBron James played a key role in that streak. However, with just under eight minutes left in the second, James squandered what looked like a very easy opportunity to pick up two points on the fast break.

Alone on the open floor, James set up for his signature reverse drive, but the ball slipped out of his hands and out of bounds, turning a simple bucket into a turnover. Adding insult to injury, James had also shorted a layup at point blank range just minutes before.

One of the funniest parts of the play is Hachimura’s reaction when he returns to the flat. I can’t tell if she’s slightly amused by the mistake or if she’s wincing due to the absurd nature of it, but her emotions are evident.

“I don’t remember seeing that from him,” ESPN’s Mike Breen said immediately afterward.

While that play does register as a turnover and not a missed shot, James entered Thursday’s game 84 of 87 on dunks between the regular season and the postseason this year, so that kind of misstep is absolutely a rarity for the star forward.
