Traditionally speaking, sitting in the front row at Yankee Stadium is one of the best properties a sports fan can own. The Bronx Bombers have been one of the world’s most successful sports franchises for over a century, so having such an intimate vantage point on the field has often meant getting the best view of some of baseball’s most legendary players in the story of the game
However, during Tuesday night’s game against the Orioles, the lucky fans sitting at the railing were on the lookout for a bit of rodent mayhem when a squirrel decided to crash the party.
Animals invading baseball diamonds are nothing new, though the brief outbreak of mayhem is always a joy to witness. What makes this latest bit of wildlife shenanigans hilarious are the classic reactions New York’s furry friend inspired from the closest fans: looks of shock, fear, confusion and amazement can be seen from patrons. who were visited from a very close place. In addition to greeting some fans, the squirrel also made some friends in the Yankees bullpen, where a player I showered it with sunflower seeds. It’s unclear if that offering was of peace or intended to lure the squirrel away from the stadium, but it’s clear the four-legged intruder was more than comfortable enjoying his view of the game for a while longer.
As for those fans? They probably came to see stars like Aaron Judge, but they’ll leave with a wildlife experience they won’t soon forget.
