Maren Morris He has learned the hard lesson that if you love something that doesn’t love you, you must let it go. In Morris’ case, she makes the firm decision to leave country music.

Last Friday (September 15), Morris released a two-track EP called The bridge, which includes the song “The Tree.” In “The Tree,” Morris appears to reflect on recent events, which may include calling Brittany Aldeanwife of country singer Jason Aldean, for transphobic comments and criticizing Morgan Wallen’s use of a racial slur. While many praised Morris’s outspokenness, some country music fans labeled her as “lunatic” and marginalized her within the genre.

“I’m done filling a cup with a hole in the bottom / I’m going to take an ax to the tree / The rot in the roots is the root of the problem / But you want to blame it on me,” he sings. .

In the attached video, she is seen leaving a rural town and literally cutting down a tree. Towards the end of the video a sign appears that reads “Welcome to our perfect little town, from sunrise to sunset”, which seems to satirically allude to Jason Aldean’s controversial song, “Try That In A Small Town”.

It’s worth noting that the song is produced by Greg Kurstin and Jimmy Robbins, and released through Columbia Records, rather than Morris’ previous label, Sony Nashville.
