The organization of the MotoGP Portuguese Grand Prix announced, this Friday, that Rui Veloso will sing the national anthem before the start of the race, on March 26, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve.
The “father” of Portuguese rock is a self-confessed fan of motorsports and a friend of Miguel Oliveira, national representative of the MotoGP grid.
Despite being born in Lisbon, Rui Veloso, 65, moved to Porto as a baby and it was from the main city in the North that he became a symbol. Several of his songs include references to Porto.
The Portuguese GP takes place on the weekend of March 26, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão. Free practice will take place on Friday and Saturday, with qualifying also taking place on the sixth day of the week, and the race is scheduled for Sunday.
