Each week, our TV and movie experts will list the ten most important streaming picks for you to add to your queues. We don’t operate strictly on accumulated streaming reviews or clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured streaming site charts), but rather on which selections are actually worth noticing amidst the choppy sea of content. After all, there are a lot of things to do and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. The morning show (Apple TV+ series)

One of the first Apple TV+ original series bought us this team of alumni Friends siblings and remains a crowd pleaser. Reese Witherspoon’s brash co-host delightfully bounces off Jennifer Aniston’s more mainstream counterpart, and Billy Crudup remains the Kermit the Frog of this series. This season, the network’s future could be in jeopardy due to the presence of a tech titan. These damn agents of chaos continues to appear in art that reflects life today.

TIE: 10. The nun (Warner Bros film on HBO Max)

Does James Wan’s unofficial muse, Patrick Wilson, appear in this episode as paranormal investigator Ed Warren? An equally important question: Does Vera Farmiga appear as Lorraine Warren? You have to watch to find out, but expect to see Taissa Farmiga return to hell on Earth. Plus, Bonnie Aarons is always there to make you piss your pants as Valek, and these films love their scares, but director Michael Chaves and Wan are good at pulling them off, so they’re forgiven.

9. Book of Power IV: Strength (Starz Series)

Should we look Power before embarking on Book IV? We have you covered on this frontand to make a long story short, it’s a good idea to watch the first one Power (with Book II And Book III being optional) to see the necessary context about Tommy Egan. We classify the power actors every week this season, which follows Tommy descending on Chicago on his way to California. You can probably guess that the Windy City drug game is distracting him.

8. The other black girl (Hulu series)

This Rashida Jones-produced show has biting humor, rather than being a fluffy little comedy. The satirical story, which tackles racial tokenization and identity in America, is based on the film of the same name by Zakiya Dalila Harris. New York Times bestselling novel about an editorial assistant, initially delighted to no longer be the “only black girl” in the office. However, something sinister is brewing as the novelty of Hazel’s arrival gives way to the unexpected.

7. The little Mermaid (Disney movie streaming on Disney+)

Disney seems to be committed to remaking live-action versions of its most beloved classic stories, and this particular reimagining stars Halle Bailey as Ariel. Bailey won rave reviews with Rob Marshall directing, and you’d be ready to sit down for the leading lady’s performance of “Part of Your World.” Expect this incarnation to be more overstuffed than its predecessor, given that it develops some issues. Plus, the ocean is a very different place in 2023 than it was in 1989, so there’s that darker vibe as well.

6. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (Paramount film streaming on VOD and Amazon Prime)

This isn’t one of Michael Bay’s films, so expect less “boom” from Jeff Rowe, and Megan Fox doesn’t appear though, but you will enjoy the voice of Ayo Edebiri ( like April) to alleviate your desire for the next season of The bear (this will take time, so be patient). Our own Mike Ryan called this episode best theater TMNT film, so there is no shortage of cowabunga.

5. The wheel of time (Amazon Prime series)

Rosamund Pike is a gem in the portrayal of sociopaths, but she finds herself in more morally gray territory here. She plays Moraine, part of the Aes Sedai organization, and she is one of the few choice women in the world who can wield magic. Under his watchful eye, the prophesied Dragon Reborn could either repair humanity or do the opposite. Jeff Bezos may have scored his Game Of Thrones with this series, rather than with Lord of the Rings: Rings of PowerAnd The wheel of timeThe audience seems to be stronger at this point. Whatever your preference, it’s a good time to watch TV and enjoy fantasy.

4. No strong emotions (Sony Pictures film on VOD and Amazon Prime)

It’s a great week to catch up on some side projects featuring The bear casting. In this case, Ebon Moss-Bachrach can be seen as the ex-boyfriend of Jennifer Lawrence’s infallible character Maddie, who needs to make money fast, so she responds to a Craigslist ad from relatives who would like really a nice woman. to fuck their unsociable 19 year old son. Cue the steamy shenanigans we miss from the movies. Long live the dirtyou all.

3. One piece (Netflix series)

Netflix has had some live-action anime duds (Cowboy Bebop And Death threat) over the past few years, but they hit a home run by adapting a beloved anime/manga starring Monkey D. Luffy searching for an elusive treasure and aiming to become the Pirate King. Season 2 has already been given the green light, just weeks after the series’ debut. And for those who like to wade into the dub-vs-sub debate, you can enjoy a bonus Japanese dub that features the voice behind the anime series.

2.. The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon (AMC series streaming on AMC+)

Norman Reedus started The Walking Dead with an overall character who does not come from the comics and who seems to be the little brother of the “mountain man”. Following a wealth of developmentthe crossbow wins his “Big Ass Kicker” nickname and gets the European “vacation” he never asked for. This is the franchise’s only “single-player” spin-off, and Reedus carries it with awesome supporting nuns and an absurd amount of mayhem and eye candy, often at the same time.

1. barbie (Warner Bros. film on VOD and Amazon Prime)

This film is not yet streaming as part of a bundle of services, but the box office success from Warner Bros. of all time is now available to rent or buy, so you can enjoy Barbies, Kens and an Allan in the privacy of your own living room. Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling deliver impressive satire and an unexpected amount of thematic weight on the most iconic plastic doll. They don’t skimp on the pink in an age-friendly beach house, but they also don’t shy away from tackling the famous doll’s legacy. It’s both awesome to watch and apologetically feminist.
