After criticism of statements made by directors al-Adra and Abraham at the Berlinale, the film “No Other Land” will be shown where it is set: in the south of the West Bank. The two report what happened next.
HChicken with rice is available on the long tables. The sun has just set behind the hills of Masafer Yatta, it is the end of the first week of Ramadan, breaking the fast. In the basement of Basil al-Adra's house, Palestinian residents mix with Israeli activists who are staying overnight. The young Israelis try to protect the shepherds and farmers of Masafer Yatta from attacks by radical settlers and the army through their presence.
But there is another reason why a particularly large number of Israelis came to the extreme south of the West Bank that evening. In a schoolyard in the main town of At-Tuwani, a film is being shown that won two awards at the Berlinale and caused a scandal – and is about this very area: “No Other Land”.
