NWSL free agency tracker: USWNT stars Crystal Dunn, Rose Lavelle and Becky Sauerbrunn hit the market

The NWSL’s second free agency period began in earnest on Tuesday as expansion teams Utah Royals and Bay FC became the first teams to sign players.

The Royals signed Micele Vasconcelos after his mutual option for the 2024 season with the Portland Thorns was declined. The move marks a homecoming for the midfielder, who grew up in the club’s home in Sandy, Utah and played for the Royals during their previous stint in the NWSL. Bay FC stepped in later that day by signing Caprice Dydasco, the 2021 NWSL Defender of the Year who spent the last two seasons with the Houston Dash.

The free agency window opened Monday, setting up a busy offseason. More than 70 players with at least five years of NWSL experience can move as free agents this offseason, and the list includes some eye-catching names. United States Women’s National Team star Crystal Dunn is one of them and has already confirmed that she will be leaving the Portland Thorns after three seasons and one championship. Her teammate Thorn and international teammate Becky Saurebrunn are also on the list, as are international teammates Rose Lavelle and Sam Mewis also whose contracts with OL Reign and Kansas City Current, respectively, expired at the end of the season.
