Pretrial detention for three suspects of murdering police in Cape Verde – Africa

The Court of the Comarca of Praia applied preventive detention to three men suspected of shooting to death more than two years ago a National Police (PN) agent in the reform, informed this Friday the Judiciary Police.

In a statement, the Cape Verdean scientific police reported that the arrest of the three suspects, aged between 28 and 35 and residing in the city of Praia, took place on Thursday, outside of flagrante delicto, in compliance with a warrant issued by the Ministry Public.

The suspects are accused of committing, in co-authorship, a crime of aggravated homicide, using a firearm, and offense to physical integrity and weapons.

According to the PN, the crime took place on December 16, 2020 in the town of São Tomé, next to the old Praia Airport, the fatal victim being a National Police officer who had recently gone for renovations.

As the Cape Verdean press wrote at the time, the policeman was murdered following a robbery.

The detainees were presented to the Court of the District of Praia, which applied preventive detention as a coercive measure.
