José Abílio Fortuna Malengue, the 53-year-old prison guard who in December 2021 was sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally running over PSP agent António Doce, in Évora, died early this Thursday.

O cm found, and an official source from the Prison Services confirmed, that Fortuna Malengue had been hospitalized for about two months at the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon.

“The prison guard died of a prolonged illness,” added the same official source. Fortuna Malengue had leukemia.

Fortuna Malengue’s internment at the Hospital de Santa Maria always took place under the supervision of prison guards.

It is recalled that António Doce was killed on December 13, 2020, when he tried to prevent the prison guard from assaulting the woman on the public road.
