sam smith is currently on tour to promote his latest album Glory. His racy performances are known for sparking conversations, or more specifically, for maddening conservatives. However, the “Unholy” singer upset her fans last night (May 24).
Performing at Manchester’s AO Arena, Smith cut short his set after just four songs. The audience was stunned after Smith walked offstage and no explanation was offered for a while, until it was announced that the show had been cancelled.
Smith has since posted a statement on his Instagram Story reading: “Dear Sailors, I honestly don’t know what to say. I battled a virus a few weeks ago and since then we have toured Europe and had amazing shows. Today at soundcheck I felt good and I was really excited to give Manchester an amazing show tonight, with a special surprise at the end.
They continued, “During my third song, I noticed something wrong with my voice. I prayed it was just my voice waking up for the show, but by the fourth song I could feel something was seriously wrong. I left the stage and tried everything to get my voice back, but to no avail. I’m honestly heartbroken that I couldn’t finish the show tonight for all of you. I love you all. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry x.”
Later, Smith shared another Instagram story that confirmed that they will be canceling some of the upcoming shows due to the vocal issues.
