Sony wins US and offshore rights – Cannes – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: sony Pictures has snapped up key US, Canadian and international for Studiocanal and Heyday Films’ threequel Paddington in Peru.

Sony, which has a long history with live-action children’s movies, that is, Crocodile Lyle Lyle and Goosebumps, I always wanted to participate in this franchise, and now they have marked it. When American rights to paddington 2 came out at auction for over $30 million, Sony was one of the bidders with Warner Bros, though that sequel ultimately went to Heyday’s Harry Potter studio. Through two films around the world, paddington it has garnered more than half a billion at the box office and the franchise has BAFTA nominations for Best British Film and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Deadline told you first that the threequel was in the works. Paddington in Peru see the bear embark on a new adventure that will take him from Windsor Gardens to Peru in the highly anticipated third film of the beloved paddington franchise.

Studiocanal fully supports the film and will release it Paddington in Peru in the UK, France, Germany, Benelux, Australia/New Zealand and Poland. Sony Pictures has the rights for the rest of the world, excluding Russia, China and Japan.

Dougal Wilson is directing a story of paddington 1 & 2 collaborators Paul King, Simon Farnaby and Mark Burton with a script by Burton, Jon Foster and James Lamont. Part Three is being produced by Academy Award nominee David Heyman and Rosie Alison with Rob Silva co-producing. Paul King, Tim Wellspring, Jeffrey Clifford, Anna Marsh, Ron Halpern and Dan MacRae are executive producers.

Virginia Longmuir, executive vice president of commercial affairs, and Joe Matukewicz, president of Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions, negotiated the deal on behalf of the studio. Aska Yamaguchi, Director of US and Digital Sales, Anne Chérel, Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Distribution, and Sophie Leuthreau, Director of Legal and Business Affairs, negotiated the deal for Studiocanal.
