SOUTHAMPTON, England (AP) — Southampton became the first team to be relegated from the Premier League after losing 2-0 to Fulham on Saturday, ensuring the south coast team’s 11-year tenure in the Premier League England’s top division comes to an end.

Southampton’s fate was sealed with two games to go in their first full season since Sport Republic, a sports and entertainment investment firm run by Serbian businessman Dragan Solak, took over last year.

Goals from Carlos Vinicius and Aleksandar Mitrovic, in their first game back after an eight-match ban for grabbing a referee, gave Fulham victory at St. Mary’s Stadium, where British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, a fan of the Southampton, was in the stands.

Southampton are eight points from safety with games to play against Brighton and Liverpool.
