In Spain there is a radar system that can detect and fine drivers who go too fast and brake even before passing through the device. They are called cascade radars and it is a method increasingly used by the Spanish Directorate General of Traffic (DGT).
According to the Spanish news website Autopista, pTo prevent drivers from only complying with the speed limits when approaching a fixed speed control point, the DGT has been using for some time a technique known as cascaded radars, which consists of, before arriving or after passing the first fixed speed control camera (signaled to all drivers), a mobile camera is placed before, or immediately after, either on a tripod on the side of the road, inside a camouflaged vehicle belonging to the Guardia Civil or a vehicle belonging to the various regional authority forces.
The origin of the implementation of cascaded radars dates back to 2020, when the Regional Police of Navarra began to use them on an experimental basis. At that time, they placed a mobile radar inside a patrol vehicle a few meters after a fixed radar.
DGT has several types of radars and devices at its disposal to monitor traffic and drivers who commit infractions. In recent times, one of the technologies that is becoming more and more popular is cascading radar, a speed control device that very few drivers know how it works.
