Sporting made history tonight in England by eliminating Arsenal in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

After a 1-1 draw at the end of extra time, with a goal from Pedro Gonçalves’ midfielder, the match was decided on penalties.

The first four penalties were scored by Sporting and Arsenal, but Brazilian forward Martinelli missed the fifth for the Premier League leaders, with goalkeeper Adán freezing the Emirates Stadium.

Adán saved and Nuno Santos scored the decisive penalty, which put Sporting in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.
