Another attack followed during the first prayers for those killed at the wedding, and a third attack occurred near a hospital. According to the Borno State Disaster Management Authority, at least 42 people were injured in the attacks.

“So far, 18 deaths have been reported, including children, men, women and pregnant women,” the head of the agency said, according to a report available to the AFP news agency. Nineteen seriously injured people were taken to the regional capital Maiduguri, and 23 others are still waiting to be evacuated.

Initially, no one claimed responsibility for the attacks. The Islamist militia Boko Haram is active in the region near the border with Cameroon.
