There is discontent in the German public service. “Business Insider” exclusively reports on a recent survey by the Bavarian Association of the Civil Service (BBB), which shows that the majority of civil servants consider their employer to be unattractive or only partially attractive.

558 out of 700 respondents would like better remuneration

An overwhelming proportion of all respondents, 81 per cent, believe that the civil service is becoming less attractive as an employer. Although employees value job security, flexible work schedules, and part-time and work-from-home options, 558 of 700 respondents are demanding better wages, according to Business Insider.

The proportion of people who would like less bureaucracy and better technical equipment in the workplace is equally large. Almost half of those surveyed also said that overtime had become the norm and that there was a notable shortage of young, qualified talent.

The technology industry is the happiest, the health and financial sectors are lagging behind

This image of the public sector contrasts with job satisfaction in the general world of work in Germany. In April, “Spiegel” presented the “Work Happiness Report”, according to which eight out of ten employees consider themselves happy in their work. This happiness at work is especially felt by those who practice a four-day week.

Although the majority of respondents said they were happy with their current job, a third regularly thought about leaving. Furthermore, happiness at work largely depends on the respective sector. Thanks to its high flexibility and innovation in work approaches, the technology industry is in the lead, while the healthcare and financial sectors in general register lower levels of happiness.
