We are just a few days away from ProWein, the largest professional wine fair in the world and which this year returns to the “month of origin”, taking place from March 19th to 21st, in Dusseldorf, Germany.
After not having happened during the two years of the pandemic – 2020 and 2021 – and having been postponed to May, in 2022, it is with great satisfaction that the producers watch this return to normality.
This is an event with a lot of impact, because it is there that most of the deals in terms of exports are promoted or closed. For this very reason, the economic agents of the Tagus Wines joined in force and the Regional Wine Commission of the Tagus (CVR Tejo) responded, reinforcing its support in terms of presence, logistics and promotion.
ProWein 2023 will thus receive the largest delegation ever of Tagus Wines, in a space with 187.5 m2: stand C40, in Hall 12. There are 21 producers, some of which are making their absolute debut: Adega de Almeirim, Adega do Cartaxo , Adega M Cordeiro, Casa Cadaval, Casal Branco, Casal da Coelheira, Casal das Freiras, Casal do Conde, Fiuza & Bright, João M. Barbosa, Nova Sociedade Agrícola Mouchão do Inglês, Ode Winery, Pedro D’orey, Quinta da Alorna , Quinta da Badula, Quinta da Lagoalva, Quinta da Lapa, Quinta da Ribeirinha, Quinta do Arrobe, Quinta do Casal Monteiro and Quinta do Côro.
Vinhos do Tejo will also promote a masterclass of ‘Brancos do Tejo’, conducted by the Master of Wine Dirceu Vianna Júnior. Aimed only at importers, distributors and wine critics, it will take place on Sunday, the 19th, at 4 pm, with nine wines, eight of which are single varietals from Fernão Pires – the queen grape variety of the Tagus region –, and a blend between Fernão Pires and Chardonnay. With Poland representing one of the most important markets for the region, the sommelier and ambassador of Tagus Wines Andrzej Strzelczyk will be present throughout the event, promoting some tastings aimed at Polish buyers.
According to Luís de Castro, chairman of CVR Tejo, in a statement, “looking back five years, the increase in the number of economic agents present at ProWein was around 40%; and the space almost doubled. These are not just numbers, but indicators that objectively reflect the dynamics of Tagus wines and the ground they are gaining worldwide, being recognized for their quality, at various levels of consumption”. It should be remembered that Luís de Castro was one of the great advocates of this investment, made since 2015, when he took over the leadership of the Tejo Regional Wine Commission.
