sam levinson The idolthe new HBO series starring lily rose depp and Abel”WeekendTesfaye, received a standing ovation of more than five minutes after her world premiere out of competition at the cannes Film Festival on Monday night.

After the projection of the first two chapters of the series that opens next month, Levinson, the Euphoria The creator, who co-created this with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim, was emotional as he addressed the crowd at the Grand Theater Lumiere, where he was flanked by his two stars.

“I’m incredibly proud of this show, and I’m proud of the way we made this show,” he said, adding, “I feel like I’ve gained a family. I know it sounds a bit cultured, but it is. feel.”

Tesfaye, the pop star making her acting debut, was also wiping away tears.

The idol stars Depp as Jocelyn, a super-ambitious Britney-esque character who has recently hit the big time in show business. After a nervous breakdown derailed her latest tour, she’s determined to reclaim her rightful status as America’s biggest and sexiest pop star.

The first two episodes shown tonight featured Depp’s Jocelyn, who is dissatisfied with her comeback record and wants to refrain from releasing it. She later meets Abel’s character, Tedros (Tesfaye), a nightclub manager with a seedy past, at her club; it’s an instant connection. Turn on fast coercive control along with some 50 shadesBDSM level and has her remix his record that night, filling it with the sounds of her sexual gasping.

His label is not betting on the new remix and tells him to organize it; they’ve lost a ton of money from their breakup and pulling out of the tour months early.

Then Abel’s character plays hard to get, with flashes of him surrounded by some sort of harem as he tasers one of the boys’ genitals. He then essentially tells Jocelyn that he’s moving out.

Meanwhile, we learn that Tedros is a “music manager” and club owner. But Jocelyn’s best friend/assistant is already suspicious, and the team and Jocelyn’s manager (Hank Azaria) have dug deep into his past: The guy’s trouble, but no one knows how much trouble yet.

Troye Sivan also stars along with Dan Levy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, Hari Nef, Jane Adams, Jennie Ruby Jane, Mike Dean, Moses Sumney, Rachel Sennott, Ramsey, and Suzanna Son.

Levinson, Tesfaye and Fahim are executive producers with Kevin Turen, Ashley Levinson, Joseph Epstein, Aaron L. Gilbert for Bron and Sara E. White. Levinson also directs. The HBO series is produced in association with A24.

It premieres on HBO at 9 pm on Sunday, June 4.
